THE BACKSTORY
About Our Founder, Award-Winning Psychiatrist Bruce Alan Kehr, M.D.
Once, there was a joyful boy named Bruce who loved to play, until a dark cloud descended over his family following the loss of his brother. The cloud was his mother’s mental illness, turning her from a radiant presence into a storm of depression and addiction. The boy often cried himself to sleep but found solace in recurring dreams of flying. He vowed to escape the storm and one day return to help his family.
Five superheroes shaped his life. His dog was his loyal companion, while his father sparked his curiosity with science. His grandfather, a compassionate doctor, introduced him to the power of healing, and his grandmother showed him resilience and determination. His other grandfather, a World War I survivor, embodied toughness and perseverance. These heroes ultimately taught him that love, hard work, and persistence could overcome anything.
As he grew, the boy explored the human mind and heart. He studied existentialism and traveled the world, learning to heal through medicine and compassion. He treated the poor and emotionally ill, realizing that listening and love were often the greatest healers. Psychoanalysis helped him progress his childhood pain, transforming it into a tool for healing others.
Driven by his past experiences and the love of his family, he founded PainScript and pioneered Root Cause Psychiatry™ at Potomac Psychiatry. Now, continuing on his mission to help others heal, Dr. Bruce Kehr has launched HoloMD—a beacon of hope for countless individuals who are too afraid, ashamed, or unable to seek help. And inspired by the superheroes who rescued his childhood, Dr. Kehr created Holo, the Mental Health Superhero whose superpowers are devoted to helping millions of patients and practitioners.
